Richard Lippke
Rick Lippke grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He
attended Iowa State University, majored in philosophy, and graduated
with distinction in 1976, having been awarded memberships in both Phi
Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees
in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then taught
for a year back at Iowa State before being awarded a postdoctoral fellowship
at the University of Florida. He subsequently took a position at James
Madison University, where he has taught since 1984.
Rick has published two books: Radical Business Ethics (Rowman
& Littlefield, 1995) and Rethinking Imprisonment (Oxford
University Press, forthcoming). He has also published 30 articles in
professional journals. He is primarily interested in using moral and
political theories to analyze legal and public policy issues. In 2001,
he was awarded the Madison Scholar award from the College of Arts and
Letters, in recognition of his scholarly achievements. He has been invited
to spend six weeks this summer at the Center for Applied Philosophy
and Public Ethics at Australian National University in Canberra, Australia.
Rick is married to Andrea Wiley, who is an anthropologist at James Madison
University. Together they have two children, Aidan and Emil.
